Alpha is a chance to have conversations about life’s big questions while exploring the Christian faith in a friendly and unpressured environment. Each week there will be a short film centered around a single question, followed by a discussion where you get to respond to the talk, hear from others, and share your perspective with a small group of people.
Alpha is for everyone, but it is designed specifically for those who are exploring and questioning faith. It's for the cynic, the skeptic, the open-minded, and those curious about what life is all about. The Alpha talks were created to engage people from all walks of life and inspire conversations that are honest, open, and meaningful. No question is out of bounds, and you are free to discuss as much or as little as you wish.
Every Alpha session starts with a time to connect, relax, and build friendships. Each week when you log onto the video call, the first 10-15 minutes will be an opportunity to get to know the other people experiencing Alpha alongside you. While we would usually start each session with coffee or food, but because we aren’t meeting in-person please feel free to bring your own to the call!
Alpha talks aren’t Sunday sermons, and you will not find a bible-thumping preacher shouting at you; instead, each film is a journey we all take together to explore a particular aspect of the Christian faith. Each talk in the Alpha film series is generally 25 minutes long and is designed to engage and inspire conversation. They explore the big issues around faith and unpack the basics of Christianity, addressing questions such as Who is Jesus? and How can we have faith?
Probably the most important part of any Alpha is discussion. It’s when you have the chance to share thoughts and ideas on the topic and discuss it in a small group. There’s no obligation to say anything, and there is nothing you cannot say. Discussion time is an opportunity to hear from others and contribute your perspective in an honest, friendly, and relaxed environment.
The Alpha Film Series is emotive, epic in scale and scope, and is filmed all around the world with inspiring stories and interviews. Hosted by Nicky Gumbel, Toby Flint, and Gemma Hunt, each talk looks at a different question about faith and is designed to create conversation. See a sample of one of the talks below.
